Endometriosis is a condition in which the endometrium, the layer of tissue that normally covers the inside of the uterus, grows outside of it. The main symptom is pelvic pain.
Unfortunately, it often hasn't been talked about enough, and many women spend years trying to ignore it.
As one sufferer says, "Period pain is common, but pain that cannot be contained by a couple of over-the-counter painkillers is not normal".
Don't suffer in silence with endometriosis. If you're concerned that your period pain might be a symptom of something more serious, see one of our GPs to discuss your symptoms. Dr Ingrid Chung has a particular interest in women's health including endometriosis.
